01: The Opening Invocation
01: Surah Al Fati-ha
Initializing our soul

01:01
In the Name of God, the One Spirit of All, Allah;
the Spirit of Compassion, the Compassionate Soul

01:02
Praised is the One Spirit of All;
the Lord of everyone's world,
all nations and creations;
now and in the hereafter.

01:03
The Spirit of Compassion, the Compassionate Soul;

01:04
the only Master on that Day of Reckoning.

01:05
"O Lord: We pledge our souls to you.
O Lord: We ask for the help of no soul but yours;

01:06
so, lead us to a path of righteousness;

01:07
the way of the people who were favored with your blessings.
Not the way of the people who had angered others;
nor the way of the souls that went astray".

A poetic translation of the Opening Invocation of the Koran (Qur'an) that flows in words and meaning. Liberating. A lovely invitation that seems to draw everyone inside. It leaves me with a deep feeling of peace, just as if a sweet wind swept across my soul. Dear Author, when will this book be available, as I really would like to read it all ... Paula Marie

A free-spirited and fresh rendition of the first two Suras of The Qur'an. Compared to many other previous translations, Neal AbuNab's new work is wondrously traditional, yet also boldly contempory and visionary. Judging from this excerpt, this new book will be an invitation to many curious newcomers, as well as serious academics and more advanced readers. The writing comes across as very direct and easy to understand, yet is also balanced by depth and a certain universitality of vision. The writer obviously puts all his soul into this, as seems apparent by its noticeable originality. Very soothing to read, simple yet softly lyrical. I especially liked Surah 2 (17). The book even has a richly beautiful cover (love the color!) and I'd like to have a copy on my shelf! This translation appears to take a unique sojourn from traditional versions, but yet (unfailingly) maintains original purity and meaning. Thanks for the glimpse,
